the first 2 depeche mode albums that i proally listened to back in my younger years was some great reward and speak and spell... i was in fact only 3rd grade, but it was a time when the song called people are people was played over at mtv... then a massive radio airplay to the song somebody all over philippine radio stations...
the only thing that really drew me into listening to this band from basildon, essex, is first, its an all-synth band, i dunno if it should be classified into electronic pop like the human league or even kraftwerk... 2nd, i think daid gahan is no shadow of a doubt an icon in british music...
depeche mode were a league of their own... i basically grew up and watched this band evolve to be one of the greatest bands to ever come out from england...
i got hold of depeche mode's 101 live concert in pasedena california sometime in 1991, boy did they change my life forever... all those live versions from the music from the masses and black celebration albums, what can i say, music as it is was evolving... from the tracks called strange love, never break me down again, black celebration and behind the wheel, never a dull moment...
the next albums from violator, songs of faith and devotion, exciter and the recently released playing the angel, truly, depeche mode's music has gone to a dark melancholic, synth-powered alternative genre...
enjoy the silence for me is the ultimate depeche mode anthem, truly it was one of the best that mode has ever written and produced... not only did it hit the dance scene but alternative as well... personal jesus is another great hit for mode, dominated the billboard charts in 1990...
the best of depeche mode was recently released, as a mode fan i would be biased, i would get the album, but, if you've got the singles 81-85 and the singles 86-98, then you won't miss out...
this also contains the smash hit precious, i feel loved and home... also featured is the new old skool style DM mode song called martyr...
