rules are simple... you need to only choose one group or artist that in your opinion truly represents what new wave is all about... you may justify your reasons, they may be several if you wish...
note: no debates here please...
lemme start:
for me, i hafta consider depeche MODE, this is a group in my own personal opinion who truly embodies what new wave is all about...
from the time that their music was synthpop/electropop in the speak and spell days, to the time that they've reached mainstream in music for the masses to the time that they have blended with alternative music in their songs of faith and devotion days, and when they revisited their grassroots of synth music as manifested in playing with the angel album...
growing, listening to their music made more get hooked in the new wave genre... its because of them, many electropop acts like camouflage have risen to the occasion.

to many to mentioned but i have two in my list.
first, the smiths - i love their songs , the performance in their concert, the dance , the move, the lyrics, the way morrissey sing.
second, wild swan - i love also their soft-feather mode of singing, the instruments they have, the tounge-twisted vocals that i cannot copy ;D

i love the wild swans, even to the time members formed the care... both bands, same voice, but their style of music is so distinct... my boyish days is a fave among the care, and the worst year of my life is my slow song fave from wild swans...

I think all the bands that we list will represent new wave very well but what about the best? When you see the name its like BAM...new wave. I would say the #1 slot would be open to B52's, Gary Newman, Devo. More?

whether the B52's went mainstream of underground, i love their music, roam is one of my faves...
OMD is another great group, and if you leave and secret are a perfect promo night themes that could still be played today...
gary newman's car is a classic, that song rules... you just don't get tired of hearing it, i think the synthesizer sounds of that song...
